[Wis. Debate] Fall Meeting and Other Reminders

Coaches,

I hope you all had a relaxing summer and are returning to the school year
with renewed vigor. As the school year begins, the debate season is fast
approaching. The WDCA Executive Committee has been hard at work this summer
to ensure that we have a smooth season. There are four items that I wanted
to take the time to remind you about.

First, the Novice Evidence Packet is now available. I sent an email to the
coaches' list-serv a few minutes ago describing how to access the files. If
you did not receive that email, please let me know.

Second, if you have not paid your WDCA dues for the current academic year,
you need to do so. In order to participate at this year's state tournament
you must have your dues paid and have a check for your state tournament
entry fees. This was discussed at the Spring Meeting and we will remind
everyone of our policy at the Fall Meeting. Checks can be sent to Eric
VanErt at South Milwaukee High School or you can bring them with you to the
Fall Meeting.

Third, the WDCA Fall Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 12 at *West
Bend High School*. There were a number of difficulties in finding a location
for this meeting, so please make the effort to come to this meeting. The
Fall Meeting is following a different structure than it has in the past and
I think that it is important to point out what we are doing this year and
how that differs from previous years. The meeting will begin at 8:30 am with
committee meetings. The following committees will meet: New Coaches,
Tournament Practices and Procedures, Judging Standards and Ethics, and Media
and Communications. Additional committees meetings may be held, but to this
point I have not heard interest in other meetings. The committee meetings
will be followed by a lunch break. After the lunch break, we will hold the
general business meeting. In prior years, we only held the general business
meeting.

To encourage coaches to come to the committee meetings, the WDCA is offering
a light breakfast and a full lunch for coaches who come to *both* the
committee meetings and the general business meeting. If you plan on coming
to the committee meetings, please let me know by Wednesday, September 9 - so
that we can have an appropriate head count.

An agenda for the Fall Meeting will be available on the Tuesday following
Labor Day. If you have agenda items to be considered at the meeting, please
submit those to me as soon as possible.

Fourth, this year the Fall Meeting will *not* be held in conjunction with
the workshop. The WDCA workshop will be held on a separate weekend. The WDCA
and Marquette University are partnering to host a Workshop and Varsity
Tournament on September 26. More details on this event will be presented at
the Fall Meeting.
